So I Went to a Medium...

Monday, January 28, 2013

That's right. My sister and I took the plunge and went to see a medium last weekend. Yes, the kind that speaks to spirits that have passed on.

(Anyone remember this show? My mom loved it...coincidence...I think not)

We have been wanting to go to one for awhile since my Mom left us so abruptly and so young. (She appreciates me calling her young I know ;)) There is a a lot of questions and times I just wonder where she went, how she's doing and what she thinks of my life. Am I doing ok?

We were given the opportunity when I went for my hair trial and my hairdresser told us the name of one that she knew. She raved on and on about this 'Carol.' So I knew it was a sign and we had to take the plunge and go.

Before we went, I was very skeptical of the whole idea of a medium. Not sure where they actually get their information from, maybe my hair lady called Carol with all the information she needed. Or maybe she would just throw out vague terms and I would be giving the information. But I was also nervous that maybe it would be very real and the things that would come out. Either way I was excited. It's something new and different that many people don't do. Go us!

The session started off off with basic instructions and how this was going to go. She would do a meditation and then get into our reading. She did prepare us that what she might bring out might not be exact but around. For instance, dates could be within 7 days before or after. And names might be similar.

Right away she said my mom was through very strong and she started to name everyone she is with up in Heaven. My grandparents obviously and a family friend too. Carol even called her quite the social butterfly because she kept naming people. Mom still making friends with everyone.

Then it just went on from there. Carol brought through that I always hung on my mom, truth. I was as shy as shy could come when I was little. I hated talking to people and being without my mom when I was younger.

She said my mom still has my back. Comforting. Mom was always the one behind every step of the way no matter what. It has been hard not having her there.

Carol even said she saw birthday balloons, my birthday had just passed. Mom was wishing me a Happy Birthday. My very first birthday spent without my mom was the year she died. You always spend your birthdays with the people you love and your best friends and she was always my best friend so there was no one better. It's been a bittersweet day but every year it feels better.

Then she went into discussing princess. What was it? Who was it? Um, hello...my Belle obsession. Or maybe the girl, girl, girls?

Highlights from the reading
(everything was coming 'through'
 what my mom was 'saying')

*See Girl, Girl, Girl. (Babies) Score! Maybe not a Rufio in our future?
*Told me not to worry about money, it will be ok...lottery win in my future?
*Brian and I will have a very close knit family with us and our babies...did I mention girl, girl, girl?
*Telling me to let go of control..Trying so hard...
*Telling me I need to get the car looked at...I'm currently 2 months past my oil change...thanks Mom.

Part of me believes fully, but in my true nature, I am still a little skeptical about it. Some of it was vague and she was asking me questions that I gave the answers to. ( Are you worried about money? Um, who isn't this wonderful economy?)

But I feel at ease after going. Like my mom was talking to me...real or fake. It is what you make it I believe. It comforts me knowing my mom is still being her crazy, talkative self up there. And that she told me it was ok to let go of my guilt because she wasn't in pain anymore. It will never bring her back to these special moments she is missing but it definitely gives some comfort.

Final verdict
If you have lost someone close to you and you feel like you never got any closure or it was too quick, do it. Or if you carry around a burden is that person is ok, do it. I am sure glad we went.

Palmolive Fresh Infusions: Influenster Review

Saturday, January 26, 2013

So you might have heard about my Palmolive Fresh Infusions that I received from Influenster the other day... but now you get my review!

If I haven't made it clear, my favorite scent is Lime Basil. Just the Lime and Basil together makes it awesome.  Who doesn't love a little extra lime in their drink or life? Whichever.
But all the scents are great and not like the normal dish soap smell you get time after time. Like summer in a bottle. Which is perfect for this frigid air we got going on over here.

Sister even got her own...Ginger White Tea. She loves floral scents so I knew even though it was my least favorite it would be her favorite. She enjoyed the nice scent and the amount of bang for her buck. We are all savers in this family.

Now down to the nitty gritty..literally. The fiance and I have a hard time remember to use non-stick spray or oil sometimes when we cook. Therefore, we tend to have burnt pan bottoms. We will get better I promise. Most dish soaps it takes awhile to clean and I have gone from Gain, to Dial to Dawn but recently found Palmolive Oxy which actually worked. So what could be more perfect then another Palmolive that smells like summer in a bottle?! Nothing. Because it gets the job done. Grease, burnt messes...gone!

And the bonus? It makes your hands feel great. I mean great. No dry, stiff feeling you usually get after washing your dishes. And I have my fair share of skin issues on my hands and it hasn't caused any worse of dry skin. Win win if you ask me.

And the hot fudge on top of the bonus?? You get a 16 oz. beautifully decorated bottle for $2.96. Yes, $2.96. That is a whole lot of awesome dish soap for a little bit price. And I know from crunching pennies and wedding saving.

And how about the cherry on top of the hot fudge on top of the bonus?? Look, so pretty!

So please do a me a favor. At least go and try this. You will not regret your decision. I so promise you.
You can learn more about Palmolive Fresh Infusions at the Palmolive website. You can pick one up at Wal-Mart!

Lisa Frank, Slap Bracelets and Tamagachi's!

Friday, January 25, 2013

If you were a child of the 90's and have seen the latest commercial from Microsoft for Internet Explorer (hint, hint, that one above..)...you certainly took a trip down memory lane and entered into nostalgia.

It will bring you back to the time when you were worried about what Lisa Frank folder you would have at school, if your slap bracelet would get taken away in class and having extra computer time to play Amazon Trail.

You traded pogs during your lunch break with the guy you had a crush on, wore wallets on chains because there was probably nothing important in that wallet anyway and couldn't wait to get home to watch Saved by the Bell.

Our listening pleasure was N'Sync, Boyz to Men, Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls. Spice World movie absolutely included. And we listened to them on our cool Walkmans and cassette tapes.

The young girls goggled over Leo DeCaprio, Justin Timberlake and Johnathan Taylor Thomas. The boys, well I;m not really sure. But I'm pretty sure Power Rangers was at the top.

And you had to make sure you didn't kill your electronic pet, the Tamagatchi. Lunch breaks, rides home from school, bathroom breaks and it was necessary to take care of your pet properly. But sadly, all the pets soon died. Never was know if it was from the kids or the parents throwing them out the window.

Nostalgia at it's best. Pretend like you don't want Lisa Frank back.

someecards.com - Hello, 90s? Listen, I swear I'll trade you my facebook account and smart phone for two hours of TGIF and one sip of Crystal Pepsi.

Dear Friday

Dear January-Where in the heck did you go? I cannot believe you are over next week and we are already into February. I don't think you quite understand this whole wedding is coming up too fast business. Slow it down.

Dear Matt Damon- You were absolutely genius on Jimmy Kimmel last night. You can actually crap some jokes and I was impressed. I wouldn't mind you taking over for Jimmy Kimmel. I would actually watch.

Dear Fiance-Thanks for being the most awesome fiance on the planet. Trash isn't my thing and you get it.

Dear apartment complex- Please tell me how our pipes froze and you left such a nice note to tell us not to do it again YET you do not heat the laundry facilities one bit. Pretty sure that wasn't in your note on how to keep pipes unfrozen.

Dear next Thursday-If you could get here like tomorrow that would be superb. I have plans for you.

That's all, folks!

Who Wants it?!...Influenster Palmolive

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

I recently got my second shipment from Influenster....Palmolive Fresh Infusions dish soap!!

Wait, does this make me old?

Moving along, this is why Influenster is so amazing. I didn't just get one Palmolive Fresh Infusion...

I didn't just get two Palmolive Fresh Infusions....

I got THREE full bottles of Palmolive Fresh Infusions!!

This was obviously my first impression when I opened up the box. Amazed that there were 3 full bottles. My second impression? Oh crap. One is leaking. That's right the Ginger had leaked itself all over the place.

After that mess was dealt with, I promptly opened up each bottle for a smell test. Don't we all do that in the store when buying dish soap?! They all smell amazing and nothing like any dish soap you usually buy.

My instant favorite was the Lime Basil.

My second favorite? Lemon Thyme.

So of course, my last (not least) favorite is the Ginger White Tea. Maybe I'm biased because it leaked itself everywhere.

The good news? I can give one away for someone to try themselves...the Ginger White Tea will be yours! And trust me, it's not like any other dish soap you have tried.

So if you comment on the blog, Facebook or Twitter I will give or send you it!

**I received these products for free from Influenster

Do you Believe in Mediums?

Saturday, January 19, 2013

Mediumship is defined as the practice of certain people—known as mediums—to mediate communication between spirits of the dead and other human beings.

There is one famous medium...I'm sure you have heard about or seen for yourself The Long Island Medium. And if you haven't, let me enlighten you.

The whole concept of a medium is still up in there air for me; I am a skeptic but I am not a non believer. I am not sure where the spirits come in and what information the person has to make up the stories. It all seems touch and go to me. My sister and I have talked about going to a medium before but we never really looked much into it.

My mom passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. I have always wanted that last chat with her ask her a few questions if I could. Especially with the wedding coming up, I just want to know what she thinks, what she's feeling. It's a huge void not having her here giving her advice and opinions on my life. I know my sister has some unanswered questions and some answers she needs.

We drug our feet until I found my hair and makeup gal for my wedding. We went to her for my trial and we were talking about my mom and she gave us a number for this medium that she has been to before and she had rave reviews for what she can do.

To me, this was a sign, a push to do this. So today is the day. I have a lot of emotions. I am still not sure if I believe all of this but I am nervous and scared at the same time. I am not sure what she will tell me or what she will come up with. I am hoping to feel more closure with my mom's death and I'm nervous I won't get that. Or maybe she won't bring anything up at all.

No looking back. I will let you know how everything goes!

Miracle Moisturizing Jeans:Thanks Wrangler

Friday, January 18, 2013

"Gee golly whiz....why ISN'T there jeans that can moisturize my bum and regions for me?! And better yet reduce my cellulite! That would be so nifty!"

Or that's at least what Wrangler thought women everywhere were saying to themselves. Because they will be  releasing "Wrangler Denim Spa" on January 28th. Yup, you heard it right.

Apparently these beauties are offered in 3 different styles and "are infused with one of three soothing ingredients: Aloe Vera, Olive Extract or special formula Smooth Legs," according to the Asos.com web site where they're available.

And what could be cheaper than a spa session? Wearing these jeans for just $136. But I hardly doubt it's better than a nice spa session. (Going off what I've heard..) And add that to all the expensive lotions and creams you have in your bathroom cabinet meant to work moisturizing miracles and you have a small fortune ready.

Oh, and there's more.

Let me talk about the Smooth Legs. It claims "to reduce the appearance of cellulite." Doesn't every expensive cream on the market? What would make us believe that a pair of jeans will do anything for us after all the creams we have tried have failed? Oh, and docs say in order to see any effect from these, you would have to wear them 28 days in a row. Lovely.

Sadly, some bad news....the moisturizing agent won't last forever in the jeans. They claim 15 wears without washing...Good luck with that dirty jean thing. And if you are actually hygienic and wash your jeans more than twice a month, you will be required to purchase a separate spray to reload your jeans to rub off on your goods.

And to add insult to this crazy injury? Mick Jagger's daughter is the spokesperson...someone who says her cellulite was reduced from wearing the jeans. Raise your hand if you think there was any there in the first place.

I for one will stick to my Olay moisturizing lotion. It works just fine when used how people use lotion. I don't need it on my jeans.

Is it me or is this just crazy town??

Friday's Letters

Dear 4 Day Weekend- You were just what I needed. Much needed relaxation and time away from work. recharge my batteries. Can't wait for another one in a month!

Dear 7 Day Diet- Thank you for kicking my butt back in to gear. Literally. It's looking quite good. It was a love/hate relationship for a week but the end results were worth it. I feel much better and healthier! Will see you again before the wedding I'm sure.

Dear wrist-WTF. You hurt like a mother and I am not quite sure why. Please cease and desist.

Dear Lance Armstrong- Your story isn't even top stories on People. (which is what I judge my life on) I think the first clue for everyone was when you were stripped of your titles for doping. So now it's just like well, duh.

Dear wedding- You are coming. And fast. I seem to have everything organized and under control. Please don't throw anything at me last minute. Much appreciated.

Dear hair- Get it together. What is up with this breakage?! I have never had this problem in my life and you decide to give me issues 5 months from my wedding? Not cool. Not cool. Please hold out until June 17th. I promise I will give you a fresh new look :)

Dear iPhone- DO I want you? Do I not want you? I am so torn. You are the older model but it's not a Blackberry. I am just confused and hate making these serious life decisions.

Dear Brian-Thanks for listening to me complain about my diet and hunger the last week. And for the lack of dinners. But at least you have gotten sushi! And of course I love our weekly dance parties. Even if my legs are killing this morning. Love you so.

I Did It!

Thursday, January 17, 2013

I finished the 7 Day Diet!!
I am the most surprised that I am saying those words because let me tell you what, IT WAS TOUGH. When I started reading the paper and diet outline, I knew the vegetables were going to throw me for a loop. And did they ever.

But I am happy to report I finished all 7 days and followed all 7 days instructions. Just had a minor slip up the first day, had a granola bar because when out doing errands I felt extremely lightheaded. And then a half a cookie on the 4th day...I was taunted at work and gave in. Only half though!

I lost a total of 9 pounds...wowza! Extremely impressed. But then I guess that's what happens when you basically eat nothing for 7 days. Ok, not nothing. Just nothing I love. Which made me for a cranky girl. Poor Brian.

What I have noticed:

1. I definitely do have more energy. Today, I was woken up a little before my alarm *ahem* but when I got up I didn't feel tired at all. I was ready and raring to go. Was out running errands by 11:00. A record for my days off when I usually sleep until 10.

2. When I was allowed to eat all my normal foods today, I actually didn't really crave any of them. I bought string cheese, some crackers, cheese and pepperoni to munch out on today. But I actually didn't eat them. I enjoyed my banana smoothie, fruit and a small sandwich.

3. Soda addiction is kicked. I am not craving it although I am thinking about it. I knew I just needed to quit cold turkey to get rid of it and i think I've done it. Good bye belly!

4. Rockin' the bod! Jeans are a little looser and less rolls when I sit. Definitely a positive.

After going through this though, I do have a few tips and suggestions. And possibly a heads up.

 1. Have the spices on hand to flavor up the soup. Add ingredients that aren't called for and take out if you want. I nixed the cabbage and added carrots to it. And after the first day, I pureed the soup. There was may too much onion for me to chew up in my soup.
I also made double the batch so I only had to make the soup once for the week. I then divided it up into my 7 days. Gave larger portions for the first 3 days because I knew I would need it and I did!

2. Day 1 will absolutely be hard. You are in serious cold turkey mode. Nothing except the fruits.  You will crave everything on the planet. Even stuff you never eat or want to eat. Cravings like a pregnant woman might have. I wanted sushi. And you know I don't like sushi.

3. Day 2 eating a potato for breakfast will actually be quite glorious. You will welcome the carbs with open arms! The rest of the day is all veggies. Salads, broccoli, carrots, peppers and the soup

4. Fruit and day it begins to get easier. I got used to the taste of the soup and eating very minimal. You can use a couple tricks to get you by...adding broccoli to your soup or more carrots. Just anything to fill you up. ***You might actually feel your body detoxing, I know I did. Certain pains and such

5. Day 4 will not be as hard as it sounds. Banana smoothies are my new favorite and they are delicious! So a smoothie for breakfast, banana and milk for snack, soup and banana for lunch, banana smoothie for snack, soup and banana for dinner and another smoothie at bedtime. Getting to this day was wonderful. From here it is downhill..wouldn't say easy but easier. I noticed this day that my pounds were dropping and it was a great motivator.

6. Hallelujah, hamburger!! Today, I did add fruit to my breakfast. There was no way I could go without breakfast the way I am always on my feet at my job. So a little cheat there but it beat me passing out on the floor at work. What I did for my tomatoes and meat was,

Cooked up my lean ground beef
added 3 chopped tomatoes
basil, oregano and some other little spices.
Cooked it up real nice and that was my lunch and dinner.
Easy 6 tomatoes. Done.

7. Love me some beef. Such an easy day. Steak and ground beef is the way to go. Include some broccoli and carrots. With an occasional salad snack. Yum, yum.

8. Last day, the most satisfying. I was so happy that I made it to that day that there was no way I was slacking off. Used the brown rice steamer and added my soup to it. Some broccoli as well. Downed a couple of V8 fruit drinks and BAM! & day diet down the drain!!

9. The water amount you have to drink might sound like a lot but it really isn't. Just these 2 babies a day but trust me you will surpass that for sure

Will I do this again? It's a good possibility. I think the first time is really the hardest so the second time should be easier. You know what to expect and you have seen the end result.

So if you are thinking of doing the 7 day diet I really do recommend it. It is hard but at the end you will be motivated to eat better because of how awesome you feel and look. Your whole body is detoxed from all the junk you have been eating.  What are you waiting for?

Birthday, Birthday

Much happy birthday love for one of my best friends, Kristen!

This gal might have moved away from me across the country...to be with her hubby. So I guess I can forgive her but  maybe not so much for my insane jealousy for being able to live in Cali.

Even from coast to coast our friendship still remains strong as ever. I know whenever I call her I can give her all my life updates and it's pretty certain she's having the same or already been through it. Truly lucky to have her as one of my best gals and bridesmaids :)

We also have grand plans to be millionaires one day. And we will do it by coming up with some silly As Seen on TV contraption. Mark my words, you will see it.

So happy birthday my love!! Miss you so!

And also a birthday shout out to the pops...Happy Birthday Dad!

Golden Globe Awards Favorites

Since I love me celebrities you know how excited I am that awards season is here. Last night I tuned in to the Golden Globe Awards. And also, flipping back and forth between the Patriots..yayy winn!!

But getting back on topic..

Starting off with with the fashion, something we all watch the Golden Globes for. I clearly have no fashion vocabulary at all and just basically say yea I love it or No, ugly.

The Best

Katherine Mcphee- Holy front, side boob. Accomplished sexy.

Hayden Panettiere- Love the flow out bottom. Fits her petite frame perfectly. Little effort but great end result.

The Not so Best

Isla Fisher- Sparkles, sparkly. Not sure what the top is doing.

Giuliana Rancic- Not sure what happened. Usually she looks so glam but that dress looks like lace was just haphazardly placed over her shoulders and around her neck. There's a collar but also an off the shoulder going on. But lovingggg the hair.

Mayim Bialik-Oh Blossom. What were you thinking? Does not flatter at all.

And of course, how hilarious were Tina Fey and Amy Poehler?!

Had me cracking up not even 2 minutes into the show. Here are some of my favorite one liners.

"Meryl Streep is not here tonight. She has the flu — and I hear she’s amazing in it."

"That was Hillary Clinton’s husband.”
“Bill Rodham Clinton!”

"Tonight we honor television shows that have entertained us all year, as well as the films that have only been in theaters two days."

And that is my thoughts.

Talking Kitty

Sunday, January 13, 2013

Ok, everyone. Get ready!!This month's blog carnival from 20SB is your current favorite Youtube video or your favorite Youtube video. And since I am a self proclaimed crazy cat lady...you know mine is going to be a cat.

Enjoy this talking cat! Seriously so adorable. Dare you not to smile at the cuteness.

This carnival is sponsored by WIGS, the #1 channel for scripted drama on YouTube.

Halfway There!

Officially on day 4 of the 7 Day Diet, which basically means I'm halfway there! Another light at the end of this diet tunnel? A 4 day weekend!! Oh yeaaaaa. If you know my job you know how rare those are so I am extremely excited for this little bit of time off.

But back to this diet. I have surpassed the fruit day, the vegetable day and the fruit and vegetable day. And I will be completely honest here and say they were tough. (Even ask Brian how much he had to hear me complain ;) And rough. All I wanted was some bread and chicken. And a side of chocolate.

Oh, and let me tell you what. If you don't like vegetables all that much, the first few days will be torture. Because the Wonder Soup, full of gross vegetables. And vegetable chunks. I got through it the first day and the second day I got smart and pureed my soup in the blender. I'm a texture person so it was really hard for me with tomato, celery, onion and pepper chunks. Ick Ick Ick.

Everyone that has done this diet that I know, said the first 2 and 3 days were the hardest. I am hoping that means I can coast through the rest of this. Although, today, banana and milk day, makes me a little nervous. How can I survive a day on bananas and milk?

But I'll do it.

And as for pounds? Down about 3 pounds so far. Not as far as I would like to be but maybe it will catch up in the next few days. I mean I am basically torturing myself here.

***Update: I am about half way through bananas and milk and let me just say, it is so easy! I love banana smoothies now. Couldn't wait to get home from work and make another!

This day.

I lost my true best friend. My very first best friend. My Mom.

The one person who always had my back and would always say, "Call me when you get there." The one who I would bicker with but never called any names. So glad for that. The one who taught me how to be independent by letting me make my own decisions and mistakes. The only mother I will ever have.
I truly miss her everyday. Especially with all the wedding activities. Ladies, be thankful for the bickering with your mom over flowers. I would give anything for those moments now.

To my Mom, My Angel
I love you and miss you so.
The ache in my heart will always be for you.
God has you in his keeping, I have you in my heart.

Time for the Thursday Link-up with Stephanie from A Beautiful Mess and Katie from Keep Calm and Carry On

I am after this pin today....the wedding invitation Christmas Ornament!

I know Christmas has passed but it's  a perfect time to gather up the plastic ornaments at Michael's and A.C. Moore 75% off! I personally had this planned months ago for my best friend's wedding invitation. Had to wait to gift it to her and the Mr. before I could reveal.
But you can definitely make something cute like this before you pack up all the decorations or next year when you open up the decorations. Especially if you have your own wedding come up this year...nice way to start preparations on your own ornament!

Ok, let's get to it. You start with the clear ornament...

Cut your invitation up into small strips

Roll each strip around a pencil...lost the picture on the one. It should come out all curly. And then you should also have a cute kitty come play with it.

The invitation I had included a wrap around ribbon, so I used that as the loop on the ornament.

Ta Da! Finished project :) Nice homemade ornament to remember their wedding :)
