My Gram and Poppy's House?

Saturday, June 18, 2011

How many of us love those moments that take us back to those good ole' time memories? Well, the answer is of course everyone. I was actually fortunate enough today to have that moment. I took a visit to a possible apartment(actually a duplex) that was labeled as 'historic.'

It was indeed historic. It reminded me of my Grammy and Poppy's house when I was young. The same fireplace that is shaped like a fireplace but is replaced by a wall. Then there are the closets that creak open with the sliding lock. And who can forget the brown hardwood floors and metal, wobbly doorknobs? And then I was able to see the same peeling windows that I crushed my thumb in and told the white lie that "I didn't actually open it Grammy like you specifically said not to do, I hit my thumb on a nail."  Yea, like she fell for that one. Oh, and I can't forget no air conditiong and creepy basement.

This obviously wasn't the place for me but it definitely brought back some great memories. For myself, sister and uncle.
Here's a glimpse :)

a disappointing house search today but I'm sure the next one might be it. Fingers crossed!

Rainy Days

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

I just want to take some time and give my appreciation for rainy days.

We might knock them here and there for ruining plans or making it miserable out. But we all fail to see that rainy days give us an easy out. You might then ask, "What in the heck do you mean?"

Well, that is a very good question. As I sit here on my day off it is indeed a rainy day. It went from cloudy to rainy but it is a rainy day nonetheless. This day of rain and clouds made for the perfect lounging day. So that is what I did. And my excuse can just simply be, it was a rainy day.

Rainy days are meant to be lazy and gloomy. Meant to put you in this weird funk. But it also a time when you can actually take a break and breathe. When the suns out we are all eager to be on our way, conquer the day, be in a hurry as we should because it's bright and beautiful out. That all changes on rainy days.

The turtle slow pace sets in. The 'ah' moment is captured. The moment that you actually can sit there and breathe because it's raining. You aren't expected to be in a hurry and conquer the day. Or not as much in a hastened space. These days allow us a breather of sorts. These are the lazy, unproductive days that we as, technologically tuned in 24/7, in a hurry, species desperately need every once in awhile. When there are cobwebs in our ears, oh it's ok it's raining. Or the I didn't go out and do all the 250 errands I had today but it's ok because it's raining.

However, I don't mean to imply that your mood should match the weather. Still smile, laugh and just enjoy the laziness of what a rainy day brings. Take time with your coffee and your morning routine. Why? Because it's raining! Grab some rarely seen takeout for dinner. Why? Because it's raining!

Keepin' my cool

Friday, June 10, 2011

The temperature has been soaring on the East coast for the past two days. Only right to find ways to keep things cool. But what a more perfect time to talk about keeping your cool untemperature related.

As mentioned in my previous post, work has been hectic the past few weeks with the new department opening and adjusting to new roles and routines. Times like these can be stressful and it can be hard to not let it get to you. Well for me there were times when I wanted to lose it but apparently I am very well at disguising that.

I was recently complimented on my ability to keep my cool during stressful situations. I never would have picked this out as one of my strengths but as soon as it was brought to my attention I realized that it most certainly is. I was also asked what's my secret. (Semi-sarcastic but a thinking point nonetheless.) What enables me to keep my cool around others, especially in the workplace?

When thinking into that question later, the answer is simple. MY LIFE.

Given a snapshot of my life and the experiences I have been through are all the explanation you need. Every curveball and cliche has been thrown at me from the time I was little.

Cancer stricken grandmother, heartbroken grandfather, dad leaving, divorce, pinching pennies, working 3 jobs, losing my mother. and of course the little sitautions of break-ups and broken hearts and friendships.

It made me adaptable and used to the fact that no matter what plan you have for how things should go and how you want them to go, the universe has the ultimate say.

What happens, happens and there isn't much you can do about it. You only have certain control over what life hands you. But in the end you have complete control over how you react to it. So why sit there all stressed out, yelling and screaming, raising your blood pressure when you have the option to be calm and know that things will work themselves out the best that the situation allows.  Almost like the saying, "Don't cry over spilled milk." except you are trying so hard to prevent the spilled milk, but it spills anyway and you are all upset over the fact that it didn't go according to the plan of not spilling the milk. (hope you follow that was a little out there.)

I no longer cry over the plan to not spill the milk. Any problems, situations that are thrown my way now are very minor compared to what I have been handed in the biger picture of life. My theory is, If I got through the worst I can get through______. (fill in the blank)  Nothing is perfect. No plan goes unflawed and if you can find me one I will pay you a million dollars that I don't even have. That's how I know it doesn't happen.

You just always have to remember there’s some sort of plan at work. For me, it’s probably my mom throwing the curveballs at me. But whatever keeps coming my way I’m ready for it.

Time for everyone to just go with the flow and not work themselves up over every perfect plan you have in place. Be excited about what’s coming. Embrace it. Let be what will be and remember C’EST LA VIE!

Here's a little reminder...way back when.

Oh hello...

Let me introduce myself...

I am the blogger that left this blog for about 3 weeks. Once again an oops. Life just gets going and there is no time to stop. On that note though, not much has really changed.

My job has been keeping me going for the majority of the past 3 weeks. Opening up my new department required a lot of my time, brainwork and energy. Which is why my notes were mostly filled with the couch, movie, bed program. But everything went off without a (large) hitch a week ago and I have finally come out of the settling dirt. Getting back into my usual roles.

Plus side from the past 3 weeks...the world didn't end. So we are all still here. At least until October when we play these shenanigans all over again.

Apartment hunting has been a strain. Found a nice place but it wasn't meant to be I guess. So upward and onward. No time to dwell on the could have been.

Friends and family have adorned my past month and adventures were had. Yankee games, beach, movies and cook outs. I promise my nex time on here won't be a month from now...
