Embracing a Snow Day

What's a snow day?

Like others, I am never given the fortune of hearing my phone ring with the great words of "Snow day today." I will be on the road later even thought every person on the east coast has advised it. Yea, makes sense I know. Do you detect my bitterness?

So I am asking pretty much everyone on the east coast to do me a favor. Enjoy your snow day. Do it for me.  And really, be very, very thankful you won't be in this miss that mother nature so kindly dumped on us.

1. Just enjoy the beauty. Inside or outside. And be thankful you won't be getting in a car anytime soon.

2. Have fun in it!

3. Have a shameless movie marathon. My choice would be superheroes.

4.Indulge in some crafting because you never have the time

5.Indulge in a nice adult beverage, write some genius blog posts and have a 30 second dance party to end it all.

What if we all did our jobs how weathermen do theirs?

Would anything actually get done?

"I will be approximately done with the report sometime between Tuesday and Friday. I might know more if you ask me tomorrow."

This is about the 5th storm of the season here in the Northeast and it seems that the weather reporting is becoming more and more vague. I know that storms move blah blah blah but seriously already. Give a timeframe and amount. How do I know whether I can make plans for tomorrow if they still aren't saying when it is coming?  You get these kind of headlines.

NJ weather remains frosty with more snow possible later this week

Forecasters waffling on snowfall amounts

ALERT: Snow storm expected

Oh wait, update. It will now be here from sometime mid morning afternoon Wednesday to sometime in the day Thursday. Yea, thanks. That really helps.

Maybe all this bitterness is actually from the snow, ice and literally below freezing temperatures but it really makes you think about how much weathermen get away with. They can say there is 8 inches of snow coming and then we get none and it is ok. It is not considered a mistake. Can they actually make a mistake? Pretty sure the answer is no.

Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the work that they do provide. Temperature wise. Just see a downward trend on how the weather stations work and [predict weather. You think it would get better and more precise because of all the technology. But I'm no weatherman.

That's my rant for now. Enjoy the snow, how ever much we are getting!

It was a cold, icy day yesterday in the neighborhood. Many people were home from school and work. Myself included. What were your comforts?

Number 1: Chili!
Yummy!

Number 2: Tea
Friends inspired cup included.

Number 3: Pink Snuggie
Not the only one who enjoys it..

Number 4: DVDs
So many to choose from.

Number 5: Good ole' fashioned paperback book
Sorry, none of that Kindle included. Just not the same.

Question...

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Why is everyone always out of milk, bread and eggs whenever it snows?

Upon my adventure to the store today, I am faced with the madness of the impending snowstorm. As it happens I am out of milk at home. It's just one of those random days my milk is low. Low and behold, the shelf is quite empty.

Hence the question I have.

It's as if it is a psychological complex. When people hear snow=getting in the car and going to the store to get milk, bread and eggs. Everyone is in tune.

Maybe it's the pancakes. People want pancakes when they are snowed in and you need milk, bread and eggs. Or even french toast. I was one of those heads out today but I just needed milk for cereal in the morning.

So why is everyone in a 25 mile radius at the store grabbing for the same three items? Feel free to offer suggestions or reasons.  And maybe take the advice of this nutrition blogger and be prepared with more substantial shopping lists before the next storm.

Here's to more pancakes in the morning!
