DIY Framed Ring Holder

Wednesday, April 29, 2015

As we are well into spring and coasting into summer, we are entering wedding season. The perfect time for a nice little DIY Framed Ring Holder.

The Framed Ring Holder has been floating around Pinterest for a few years now but it's still a popular, personalized gift to hold your wedding ring and engagement ring. It's really easy to make and can be personalized to the recipient's taste. I included one in each of my friends engagement gifts baskets but they also make great bridal shower gifts, wedding gifts and birthday gifts. Easy, personalized gift.

What You Need

Small Frame This one came from AC Moore.
*Do not toss out the cardboard from the back of the frame, you will need it!
Fabric Most of the time white, cream will work
Foam White will work best
Glue
Adhesive Roller
Decorative Accents
Pin

Start by taking the cardboard out of the back of the frame. Run the glue down the sides of the cardboard and place down on the foam pressing slightly.

Add glue to the opposite side of the cardboard and wrap the foam around the cardboard backing pressing down for few seconds. Make sure it sticks together.

Cut the fabric to be approximately 1/2" larger than the foam. Apply roll on adhesive to the ends of the fabric & foam to secure in place.

Make sure the fabric wraps around the foam tight, smoothing out any bubbles, bumps that might be on the surface.

Place fabric piece back into the frame. If it ends up being too large, you can easily peel back the adhesive and trim the cardboard. I had to do this a couple of times to make it fit.

Once you have put the fabric backing into the frame, it's time to add the pin. I found it best to measure 1/4 way from the top. Once you find the spot insert the pin from an upward angle. It might take some adjusting to get the pin in all the way so that it is not sticking out.

Add any embellishments to the frame that you need. I kept this one pretty simple with just a small flower. The possibilities are endless depending on the frame you purchase.

Voila! A perfectly, chic, convenient Framed Ring Holder. The perfect DIY personalized bridal shower gift.

Is there a DIY personalized item you like to give for gifts?

Helping Your Spouse Through Grief

Tuesday, April 21, 2015

When your spouse/significant other loses someone close to them, it can be hard to understand what they are feeling or going through. You might be at a lost on just how to help them through their grieving or what to say.

When I lost my mom, there were all the stages of grief present. Anger, hurt, resentment. It was Brian that was there and helped me through it and still has to help through some days. It can be hard to be in these shoes, there are certain ways though that you can help your spouse get through the grief.

Listen
Let your spouse talk about their loss and talk about the person. It will help to be able to share stories and upsetting moments to deal with the grief. Listen to them if they need more support than usual or maybe just time alone.

Understand
When it comes to grief, there is no black and white on how to grieve. One day it might be sadness. Another day it might be anger. Another day it might be euphoria and going through all the childhood pictures. Grief can be dealt with in many different ways. Sometimes it will be the grief talking, don't take it personally.

Offer Help
When you know it might be hard time for your spouse, do some nice things to let your spouse know you are there. Take a chore off of their plate. Cook them an extra special dinner. If they snap at you, give them an extra hug. Helping them lets them know you acknowledge this is a hard time and want to help them out.

Be there for all the Coming Days
Days where they might wake up and just be sad that person isn't there. They will be at a loss when it comes to big moments in their life and on special occasions like birthdays, holidays, etc. It will get easier but will still be hard at some moments.

Communicate
It's good to ask how how the person is doing, if they need anything, just telling them you are there. Your spouse needs to hear that you are trying to understand what they are going through, know that it takes some time but you are there.

It can be hard for a husband/wife to understand the loss their spouse is feeling if they haven't been through it. And even if they have, everyone grieves in a different way. It's just important to make sure they know when things are hard, you will be there for them.

Choosing Wedding Invitations with Wedding Paper Divas

Wednesday, April 15, 2015

“I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Wedding Paper Divas. I received a product and a promotional item to thank me for participating.”

Being a bridesmaid can include many different duties. Calming down the frazzled bride. Taking on any DIY craft she gives you. Rocking that bridesmaids dress like a boss. It can even include helping her choose the right wedding invitations to fit the theme of her wedding. I talked about this a few weeks ago. Uber important. Good thing I know all that Wedding Paper Divas has to offer.

Wedding Paper Divas has made that process a lot easier when it comes to picking wedding invitations. Being a bridesmaid, it’s important to support the bride and ensure she has everything she needs to make informed decisions. Like the Wedding Paper Divas sample kit for invitations.

The bride is going for a romantic, rustic theme wedding as her venue has an absolute gorgeous country setting overlooking mountains and a reception in a classy barn. It's important for her invitation decision to reflect that.

Wedding Paper Divas not only has a variety of designs to choose from but allows you to narrow down your choices right away according to the theme you are going for. Checking off Modern, vintage, rustic really helped her start the process of finding the right invitation. Since she wasn't going modern, she didn't have to scroll through any invitations that didn't fit her style.

Once that was narrowed down, it got even easier when she narrowed it down to blue, one of her wedding day colors. Even though she is now having a bit of trouble deciding between these two designs.., the wedding sample kit really helped her narrow down her choices.

This is from the Dazzling Lace Suite. It is included under the romantic theme with options to personalize color, trim and paper.

This is from the Wreathed in Love Collection. It also includes the option to change the color of the wreath, trim outline, envelope liner and font color.

Even better than having the wedding invitation process made easier through #WeddingPaperDivas is that you can coordinate your invitations with other parts of your wedding. The DIY options include gift tags for favors, envelope stamps and many other options!

These additions are something my friend really likes and really might utilize within her wedding. She loves the idea of being able to tie everything together. It's offered to as you are shopping too so you can have the choice to think about it and browse through it.

Another great option for brides is the live chat feature. There were a few questions I was unable to answer for my friend so I suggested she utilize the live chat. It helped her get her answer to any questions immediately rather than waiting back and forth for emails. You are also able to choose to get a digital proof of your invitation before you print 150 final copies. Puts the frazzled bride’s mind at ease to see it before it goes to the final stage. It includes a personal designer that looks over your whole product including grammar and photo quality, if that applies.

Being a bridesmaid is truly an honor being able to help your friend and stand beside her on the most important day of her life. Using Wedding Paper Divas has definitely helped my friend, the bride choose the best stationary to match her wedding day theme.

Things That Excite Me

Friday, April 10, 2015

“I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Dove. I received a product sample and promotional item to thank me for my participation.”

It's FINALLY Friday. Hallelujah! If you have a spring break or 3 day weekend, please keep it to yourself, thanks. Work has been just a bit crazy and with the 21 Day Fix I am a little frazzled. Which makes me excited for just a few things lately.

The Weekend

And the fact that I get to see this pretty lady for a fun breakfast. Missed her so. Can't wait to spill all about the craziness of my life ;)

Bikini Series

Although I am not an official Tone It Up girl (sad face) I have been following their programs and workouts for a little over a year now. The bikini series last year was my first time really trying to follow this program. My 21 Day Fix and the first week of the Bikini Series will overlap so I am hoping for great results those first few weeks. There must be abs under this flab somewhere.

Spring Loop Giveaway

Happening TOMORROW. Instagram. Think of all the pretty spring clothes you could buy with the money!

Furious 7

Who already pre-ordered this even though it doesn't have a release date? Me! I keep re-watching the ending over and over again. Just to torture myself with tears and the end of this franchise.

Dove Advanced Care Anti-Perspirant/Deodorant

For as long as I can remember, I have been a plain jane when it comes to deodorant. It's been the same brand, same scent for many years. I had a brief tryst with the gel antiperspirant but that did not end well. I'm excited to be able to try out this NEW Dove deodorant in the coming weeks and share my results with you. With my workouts becoming more intense, I am hoping the 48 hour wetness and odor protection holds up and the NutriumMoisture technology can help me develop some of the smoothest underarms around.

What's exciting you lately?

Time Well Spent

Tuesday, April 7, 2015

As I have mentioned, my time spent writing on this blog has been few and far between. No reason other than, I'm not really sure why. If that makes no sense at all.

With my time away from here, I have been keeping busy and not so busy. Busy enough to feel a bit frazzled some days and not that busy where I can relax on a Saturday.

I'm sure you are quite curious what I have been up to while I have been away. If not, I am still going to tell you all about it.

Spring Cleaning.

Our bedroom never really got decorated after we moved in. It was kind of left to the wayside while I focused on the dining room, living room, etc. You know, the stuff people see all the time that come over. I really want to make our bedroom more cozy, more liveable if that makes sense. It involves donating clothes that I no longer wear. Adding a nice reading corner. Acquiring actual curtains instead of an old rolling shade. And maybe then I will tackle the actual spring cleaning in the rest of the house.

21 Day Fix.

Once day I had this crazy idea to start the 21 Day Fix. So naturally, I waited 2 weeks before I ordered it. I am currently on Day 8 and seeing a little bit of results. There are workouts we do every morning at 5:30. Ick. And I follow the meal plan according to my containers. I get 3 greens (veggies), 2 purples(fruits), 4 reds(protein), 2 yellow(carbs), 1 blue(healthy fats), 1 orange(dressing). My diet has always been the hardest thing to keep under control because 1. I love carbs and 2. I am not a huge fan of vegetables. This hasn't been the easiest to get used to but I am hoping in 21 days I can change my habits.

Spending time with my husband.

Like a lot of time. We are together morning and night. He drops me off to work, he picks me up from work. There may be a few morning fights over the radio and seat heater.  Which is why we choose to enjoy our weekends out if we can. Get away from our routine. On a date, with friends, Charades, Heads Up, breweries, lots of fun things going on around here.

Playing with my kitty.

Because why not? Crazy cat lady and proud. I should make a shirt.

Sticking to a budget.

Well, of sorts. We have developed a schedule of when to pay bills, student loans, grocery shop, etc. It was becoming like everything was due at once so we have divided everything up into our 4 paychecks every month. It seemed to work well last month and are continuing this month. We are also putting a good chunk into our savings which is a win win.

Enjoying the moments.

Babies arriving this year. Weddings happening this year. Life is moving along quite nicely. Before we know it, the year will be half over. Then comes the time where I countdown to the unavoidable 30th birthday.

That's where my time has been spent folks. It's passing by and I know I will figure out just where to fit this whole sharing, writing thing back in. When have you stepped back to adjust your time and enjoy the moments?

Too Fast, Too Furious.

Friday, April 3, 2015

If you know anything about me, you know I love Friends and movies. More specifically, superheroes and the Fast and Furious franchise of movies. Which makes today a very special day.

The release of Furious 7.

You can find me always watching the Fast & Furious movies on TV, having them pre-ordered to be at my door when they go on DVD (now Blu-Ray) and seeing the movies on opening night. Which is where I will be tonight at approximately 7:30. Sitting nice and cozy {cramped} in that movie seat to watch the last ride of Brian O'Connor. Cue the tears.

I've forced my mom, sister and husband to watch this franchise and gave them no choice but to love it. Especially since I would play it over and over again. I saw most of the movies with my mom and that makes her pretty much the coolest mom there ever was. I had Paul Walker posters hanging in my room around the time of the second release. I might have even been the reason we had a Fast & Furious movie marathon in a cramped college room of a fraternity house. I even wrote about Paul Walker's death and why it meant so much to so many people, my personal take. There may even be talks about how I used to drive my little Chevy Cavalier too fast, too furious ;)

The reviews have been nothing but fantastic for Furious7. Answering the question that many people are thinking, How will Brian O'Connor leave his family? How will Paul Walker leave this franchise? Since I am quite the emotional person as it is, I have no doubt I will have tears flowing tonight. Saying goodbye to Paul Walker in the Fast & Furious franchise.

Aside from that, Happy Friday!
