A Freedom Filled Weekend

Wednesday, July 5, 2017

Wasn't it just Friday like five minutes ago?

I would love nothing more than to repeat the past four days. It was the best balance between relaxing, enjoying my little man, and getting things done around the house.

We had our first cook outs of the year with the new grill. (Fathers Day gift for the husband!)

It feels so good to have our own home, sit outside at night with some wine and enjoy the summer nights. I also love pretending we are in the country with nothing around us if even for a few seconds.

We took multiple trips to Target because why not? BBQ supplies and just things you feel like you have to have for a BBQ, which is actually a lot.

There was a winery trip and Lucas meeting even more friends and hanging out with us. Yea, we take our baby everywhere, even wineries. Call us those people ha!

As I am back at work desperately wanting a nap to catch up from this weekend, I can't help but think how badly I wish there wasn't such a thing as work.

Friday Favorites

Friday, June 30, 2017

Here we are, we have arrived at Friday! Anyone else feel like they barely made it?
Especially a TGIF today because...

Four Day Weekend!!
That's right. Four days to just relax, sip some wine and cuddle my little man.

New Table

We have our first piece of new furniture for our house! Only took six months but the dining room table, love it. As soon as we put it together I'll share.

Sleep
Little man has been transitioning to his crib fairly well the past few nights and we have gotten a good amount of sleep. Well, more than what we are used to. I feel like a half functioning human being at least.

Little Man

Always my favorite. I am loving rompers on him I can't help myself.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Big 'Ole Pregnancy Recap

Thursday, May 25, 2017

Back in my good blogger days, I had always watched bloggers do their bump updates and couldn't wait until I was able to do them.

Then I became pregnant.

I was tired, exhausted, nauseous, house hunting, moving, preparing for baby and it never worked out for me. There are drafts and drafts where I started to sit down and right each week but never quite made it through.

From all of these started posts, I have pulled together the best moments from this pregnancy.

I was very fortunate to have a fairly good pregnancy. There was hardly anything I could actually complain about that wasn't a mere annoyance more than anything. I mean the preggo swaddle...kinda comes with the territory I suppose. My body did take to pregnancy very well.

First Trimester

Call me the lady that didn't have morning sickness. I didn't get sick once during those first few months, but oh the nausea was definitely a foe. It started around 12 o'clock in the afternoon so lunchtime was always awesome.

Naps on naps on naps.

I was the woman at work that was trying to hold my what I thought was a green face so I avoided the lunchroom,  I would sit at my desk and try to choke down some sort of food while also swigging down some ginger ale followed by a ginger drop and quite possibly a few crackers. Anything to get rid of it.

Meat was not my friend at all. Looking out it, smelling it, thinking about it...it just did not agree with me. My poor husband really suffered because even smelling the cooking of it made me sick. He was responsible for most dinners if he actually wanted meat.

Chicken kind of lingered throughout my whole pregnancy and even now I'm still trying to like it again. I'm getting a lot better it was a lot of chicken Parm for a while but I am able to kind of have chicken mixture and I can't have regular grill chicken yet just sitting on my plate but it does have to be mixed with something.

Eggs were a big nausea trigger for sure. I learned that on our trip to Myrtle Beach during breakfast. I had to French toast and felt very nauseous after that which is weird because it was bread. So the next day I tried pancakes still nauseous so we kind of narrowed it down that it was the egg and I tried regular eggs and it definitely was them. Bummer too because we were egg in the morning people.

A craving that I had to have, frozen yogurt. It was frozen yogurt after dinner, during a Saturday, had to have it.

It was great getting to tell everyone during those first few weeks. Family was first, followed by close friends, followed by social media ;) You can read all about it here. Once everyone knew, it felt so much more real because we could openly talk about it and people were getting excited just as much as us.

Second Trimester

Coming into the second semester was absolutely wonderful. When people tell you that that it gets much better they are absolutely correct.

I had a lot more energy, was napping less, and my nausea definitely subsided. I felt like I could actually eat again like my normal self. Minus meat, that took a little longer to not make me want to be sick.

My cravings around then we're ice cream sandwiches. I had a dream that I had an ice cream sandwich in my purse that I was super concerned I was not going to have time to eat. Crazy pregnancy dreams everyone.

Doctor’s appointments were pretty routine month after month during this time. I did have to go for some extra genetic testing. My dad has hemochromatosis which is a genetic disorder that I was never tested for myself so I was sent to a genetic counselor to be tested and kind of go through things to make sure that we were aware what would happen if I had it if the baby had it etc. Because of this we were able to have an extra ultrasound at 15 weeks that allowed us to know the gender early. We weren’t ready. I wasn’t ready. And we held on to that precious envelope for a few weeks before we opened it.

I bought my first pair of maternity pants towards the end of my second trimester. The hair tie trick was just not cutting it anymore. But let me tell you, I was loving the elastic feel of a waste band. Having to go back to buttons and zippers was very unfortunate.

Me and the little one travelled to Chicago twice during the second trimester. The first trip I was really nervous, but opting for the extra leg room on the plane was definitely the right choice. And not having to worry about ordering the dessert at every company dinner, a plus.

Chicago Bump

Third Trimester

When I entered my third trimester I remember I was in complete shock that I was actually that far. I would also like to say that I entered my third trimester about a week before we were about to close on our house. Cue all kinds of panic that we were going to have to move and we were already in the third trimester and technically he could've come any time after Christmas on. See where my pregnancy anxiety was going with this?
Napping with my first baby

One thing I will always be grateful for was that I still felt great. Sorry if you hate me for it.

I remember people asking me “how are you feeling, now?” and “are you so over being pregnant?”  and my answer was always, still pretty good and honestly, I’m enjoying it. I was still climbing on the floor and getting up off the floor. Maybe not as graceful as before but it wasn’t difficult.

I was still exercising quite a bit. My feet never swelled (just my calves) and there were no complaints really that I had. I mean otherwise of the normal had to go the bathroom all the time. But I was in no way ready to be done and have him here.

My baby shower was excellent thrown by my sister, my cousin, and my best friend with a Winter Wonderland theme. It was a beautiful day and baby was definitely loved on.

Oh, did I mention I turned 30 while pregnant? Cuz I did. And while I was bummed no alcohol involved I was pampered for sure. Still can't believe I hit the big 3-0. Celebrating half birthdays is a thing, right?

I started my maternity leave at 37 weeks because I'm fortunate to have been paid for it so I wanted to kind of get things situated with our house. I also thought for sure the little baby would be coming early or at the very latest on time. He obviously disagreed with me and had his own plans.

At my 40 week appointment, they had prepared us that we would discuss induction if I made it to my 41 week appointment. This was the week I tried everything thrown at me to get the baby out. Garlic, oregano, cinnamon, walking, walking, walking. But he wasn’t budging.

At my 41 week appointment I was hooked up to a nonstress test. He sounded fine, his heart rate was great. They suggested an induction starting on Sunday but I possibly could go till the next week until that Thursday if I chose.

We did opt for the induction to get him out a little bit earlier because I had read that the baby could become stressed being in that long.  Lo and behold this little guy came at 41 weeks and three days. The day I was supposed to start my induction. This story to come.

Last bump picture <3

So if you got through all this ramble, you can see I did enjoy my pregnancy and there are times I miss my little baby bump. I keep joking that the next one might give me a run for my money pregnancy wise. But I would never be the one to say I didn't like it or was rushing through it. My little Lucas was good to me.

Weekend Update

Monday, May 22, 2017

As I sit here so very sleep deprived, I am thinking about just how nice my weekend was. Missing my little man during the week makes me want to take advantage of all the niggles and hugs I can get in the weekend

So I did just that. I only left the house to go to Target for about an hour. Otherwise, it was at home with the little guy.

Family visited throughout the weekend to love on the little guy. My sister brought us breakfast Sunday and looked after the babe just long enough for me to get my meals ready for the week.

Lucas came down with his first daycare sniffles. So not fun. Saturday night and last night was a lot of restless sleep making sure he was ok. I mean, those baby coughs and sneezes break your heart. But he was still all smiles. I think daycare thought I was lying when I dropped him off today.

I would say I'm very satisfied with my weekend. Even with no sleep.

A Weekend of Small Moments

Monday, May 8, 2017

When I go to write the weekend recap I kind of sit here and wonder now, is my weekend that exciting? Do people want to read about it?

I mean, this weekend it was an early morning, visiting daycare with grandma and grandpa, Saladworks (our favorite), family nap, more naps, chores, then it was all over it seemed.

Then I look at what the weekend really was.

It was waking up to cutest baby smiles and coos I never want to forget. And the fact he already wants to hold his bottle by himself.

Getting more comfortable with the daycare by going to the grand opening. I mean, these people will essentially be teaching my little baby lots of what he needs to know. It's also the start of me being a working mom and I have a funny feeling I'll discover a whole new version of strength.

Family naps. Just sleep is something to be celebrated but the snuggles while napping? Never want to forget the small baby smell, arms flung out and mouth opened in an "O."

Our weekends might have changed from going place to place to spending most of our time at home, but these small moments are all moments I don't want to forget.  And these will mean so much when I go back to work.

So if you show up here in Mondays ( sometimes Tuesdays) and wonder why I'm telling you all about breakfast or mowing the lawn, this is why. The small things I always want to remember.

New Mom Mother's Day Gifts

Wednesday, May 3, 2017

We are just a few weeks away from Mother's Day and I can't tell you how crazy it is that I will be celebrating my first Mother's Day as a mom! How lucky am I?

Being a fairly new mom, 3 months in, I feel like there might be a different set of gifts that would really tickle a new mom's fancy.

And for all I know, this might still be my list in 5 years. I'll let you know.

Sleep.

Available here

On top of sleep and more sleep. Let's make it happen.

Coffee.
Flavored is best.

"Mom" gifts.
Because I want to shout it from everywhere that I'm a mom! But not like other moms, I'm a cool mom. I kid. So bring on the coffee mugs, wine glasses, picture frames... I want it all!

Pictures of new baby.

Because being a working mom is really going to test me and I need pictures to sob over while I pretend to actually get my work done.

Housekeeper.
This house has not been cleaning itself and needs a desperate attempt of some sort of cleanliness.

Hair appointment.

I have to cover this postpartum hair loss somehow. Maybe a nice Lob will do the trick.

Brunch.
Oh I miss it. Mimosas included of course.

Massage.
Carrying a baby and sleeping in weird angles to accommodate a sleeping baby awakes the soreness of all the muscles.

Facial.
Hello acne from high school. Thanks for showing up to the postpartum party I'm having.

Wine.

I think this one just explains itself.

So if you have a new mom in your life this Mother's Day, peruse the list and give it a thought. Is there anything else you would add to this?

Wine Filled Weekend

Tuesday, May 2, 2017

Just stopping in on a Tuesday to update you on our weekend because that's the norm around here I guess.

We visited a local winery Saturday for their annual Baconfest! It included wine and food trucks, with lots of bacon on the side.

It was also Lucas's first visit to a winery, but not his last for sure.

It will also be a great place for him as he gets older because momma can drink some wine while he plays on the playground. Don't worry he will always be properly supervised.

Also let's talk about the weather this weekend. It was a balmy 88 here on Saturday. Legit felt like the middle of summer, but nope just the end of April. We had prepared for a little bit warmer weather but anticipated clouds. Good thing the winery had inside where we hung out with the little man to keep him cool. But then Sunday was a much cooler 65. How do we go for a twenty degree difference in two days? Oh mother nature.

We had some friends over to visit Sunday, had the windows open and did some house cleaning. And some exercising.

Overall, a nice weekend taking the little man out and relaxing. I can't believe this weekend will be the last one before I go to work. Cue all the tears. And the madness that will be this weekend as I make sure I have everything together.

Friday Favorites

Friday, April 28, 2017

Can you believe it's the last Friday of April already? I surely cannot. It's the last Friday I get to spend at home with my little man. Cue tears. But let's get to some fun Friday things shall we?

New Elliptical

This beautiful machine arrived yesterday. Can we just call it a push present?

We had a treadmill for a few years that we used A LOT. It started to stick and sound squeky, so when I called to have a repair person come they mentioned it would $150 just to look at it then who know how much to fix. Adn when the treadmill only cost you a little over $300 you decide to get the elliptical you had been wanting. Now I have no excuse not to get back in shape. I was on this for maybe 10 minutes yesterday and my legs felt like absolute jelly.

Lawn mower

Another fun gift arrived this week. Being homeowners is fun. And Lucas loved staring at the box for a good ten minutes. Do whatever you can when you can't get him to stop crying.

Cat & Nat
One of the fun things I discovered when I was on maternity leave was these two moms. They make the funniest car videos (mom related) and run a live show at 12 pm every day. Seriously, they are a hoot, you must check them out.

Morning naps

This little guy might be going through a growth sport, wanting to be up every few hours a night again. These morning naps have been getting me through. Sure going to miss them when I go back to work! Also, how am I am going to function?

This blog

I am so excited to be back and be writing again. Get ready for some mom zingers comin your way!

We are looking at some summer weather coming our way tomorrow and we might consider attending a local BaconFest. What are your plans for the weekend? Have a great one!

Hey There

Tuesday, April 25, 2017

Your eyes do not deceive you. This is an actual blog post..cue the gasp. Myself included. Maybe you have some questions about the new look I got goin on and the fact that I am actually writing a blog post.

Are you actually back, like for real?

Yes I am. there's an itching inside of me lately that has been wanting to get back to this space. I think since becoming a mom I need a little something to call my own and this is just the answer.

Haven't you heard this before?

Yes, you have. I said this probably about a year ago around this time. I had big plans to come back to this little space and give it some life. Then two little lines appeared on this stick I peed on and well, life just became a little crazy. And a whole lot more cute.

But this time, I mean it. I am committed to showing up here. There are at least a dozen drafted posts I had started and never quite got to hit the post button on. Some pregnancy, some just general life musings. Probably some coming mom related.

What can you expect?

Posts a few times a week. I won't get carried away and say every day. That would just set me up for failure.

Will it be a mommy blog?

Honestly, I'm not sure. I'll definitely chat about it as it's a huge part of my life now but I still want to have other topics as well.

Can you come back from this long of a blog break?
For now, I am still just trying to figure out how I can get my blog life back. Those that are bloggers understand what I mean. Once you take a break, it can seem overwhelming to jump back in. The blog world has changed so much in the past year. Am I ready to be a part of this new jungle?

Only time will tell I guess...but you tell me, how do you come back from a blogging break? Any tips to give me?
