Our Honeymoon in Kauai: The Beginning

Thursday, July 11, 2013

Remember that post about how we won a free honeymoon? Well, long story short, we needed 90 days notice to book our date..so that didn't exactly work for us. But no worries, we still have a free trip, which is now our anniversary trip!

This meant we went back to the original plan of Hawaii for our honeymoon! We did have to cut down island hopping due to the price increase (I mean booking your honeymoon not even 3 months before, you will pay serious money) but we decided on Kauai as our only destination. And it was absolutely blissful.

We stayed at the Kauai Beach Resort and it was so beautiful. It was right on the beach so we were able to split time between the pool and the beach but let's be serious. The pool had the drinks so...ya know how that goes.

The hotel is in the process of "going Green" so if you want hot water before 7 when the sun comes up, not going to happen. Yes, I might have been up this early on vacation looking for hot water for the stye in my eye. Sexy I know. But back to the lack of hot water. They now use solar panels to run their hot water heaters which means, no sun, no hot water. But as I said, it's vacation so many people aren't up that early anyway.

We had the option of eating at the Naupaka Terrace Restaurant for breakfast or dinner. And there was a to-go option restaurant for breakfast, the Naupaka Cafe. All about our wonderful meals as I recap each of our days. And they were all delicious!

Basically, we loved our hotel. The atmosphere was wonderful and it was easy access to all the attractions that we wanted to see. The staff was more than accommodating and we recommend it to anyone thinking of travelling to Kauai that doesn't want the grand price of the Hyatt or Marriott.

Fun Facts about Kauai

They have wild chickens EVERYWHERE. And I mean everywhere. You hear roosters as your wake up call and chickens love to steal your food. Apparently, their predator was never brought to this particular island so they just roam free.

Plastic bags are banned. On the whole island. You will not find any store with a plastic bag. It is all paper bags. And when we made the trip to Wal-Mart (water, snacks, etc.) , we had to purchase our own reusable bags.

Stay tuned for a day to day recap of the whole fun adventure. But let me warn you, no we did not snorkel. I might have an issue with the ocean.

Settling in as a Mrs.

It has been a month since the epic #MoyWedding.

It was a thing, I promise.

And I still feel like I haven't gotten caught up. So for everyone that just got married in June or within the last few weeks and are already posting all your honeymoon and wedding posts...kuddos to you.

Being back to work the first week was tough. It's like you are just itching for that moment to sit at the pool with a cocktail in your hand. But you can't. Because you're at work. And there's no pool or beach in sight. Depression.

Or when you just want to not wear shoes 50% of the time again. But you can't. Because society here does not approve of such things.

Then right after I felt recuperated from that whole week, it was a whirlwind of a weekend that included working a double and changing my shifts around all kinds of crazy.

Then I was finally able to enjoy a nice weekend for the 4th of July and breathe for a minute of a second. It was actually very delightful to spend time with my hubby, clean and see my friends. Definitely was a needed breather from work life.

In between all of this, I made more than one attempt to change my name, (Finally had Success!!) reorganized my kitchen to fit all the fun new gifts from my bridal shower and of course, loving on my new hubby!

Needless to say, it's been a bit overwhelming and I am still trying to get into a post wedding routine. That means meal planning so the hubby has good meals, a good fitness routine to knock off the pounds from the honeymoon that I don't even want to talk about and setting ourselves on a strict budget to save for our house.

How does that sound tiring and I'm just typing it?

So friends, that is what I have been doing and what I will be doing. I truly hope I can start our honeymoon posts tomorrow. Send good thoughts my way!

And if you are a fellow newlywed, what was your first month like trying to get organized and adjusted?

Happy 4th!

Here's hoping you have a wonderful holiday with your family, friends and loved ones!

5 Years From Now:Blogging for a Purpose

Tuesday, July 2, 2013

This is my first week joining in for the 52 Weeks of Blogging From Mrs. to Mama and I absolutely love this week. I love looking at my life in the future and having dreams. Because if we don't have dreams, what do we have?

You will notice I use, "I want.." I have learned through my 26 years, that life throws you some pretty serious curve balls. Some you do not expect or plan for. So this is what I want for my life in 5 years. Maybe stick around and see where it takes me the next 5 years!

I want to be a better wife. I am kinda new at this game. Heyy 1 month anniversary! So I obviously have A LOT to learn including getting a better grip on this whole cleaning thing. More about that to come. But I will be a better wife because you can only get better right? And everyone is always learning.

I want to still have date nights with my husband. Right now, going out on dates, just the two of us, is one of the things I enjoy the most. We go to dinner and the movies and I love that we just have a good time no matter what we are doing. I still want to be doing this in 5 years, albeit kid, kids or no kids.

I want to have our house, our home. With a yard, rooms and multiple bathrooms. A place we worked hard for, without any help and we can stand back and say, yea, we did it. This will be the place I want all my Pinterest dreams to come true. A place where we can start our family.

I want to have a baby
..babies maybe! We are no where near ready at this moment in our life. We love our freedom and did I mention we live in a teeny apartment that barely fits us and our kitty, Lily? No room at this house. We also love sleeping and one of us just might be the tiniest bit cranky when she doesn't get her at least 5 hours of sleep. So it will definitely be around the 3 year mark so maybe by 5 years, there might be another appearance!

I want our debt paid. Obviously, not all of it. Thanks for reminding me student loans that I will be around 45 when that happens. But I want our credit cards, car and AT LEAST 3 of my student loans paid off. Thankfully, we have a good balance of debt right now. I have student loans, Brian does not. Brian has a car payment, I do not. We are being proactive right now setting up budgets and savings to help us get to these goals.

I want another kitty. Brian protests. But the cat lady in me desires at least one more for my baby, Lily, to baby herself. I know she will absolutely love the kitty, no matter what anyone says.

I want to say I'm a 5k runner. Like on the regular. Even after the babies. I was a runner back in my day and I must say, I was pretty fast. I lost it through my years of college and especially trying to avoid the newlywed 15, I am trying to get back into a running schedule. It would definitely keep me in shape to be that MILF I hope to be.

I want us to still be as happy and healthy as we are today, as newlyweds. In love and learning just what marriage is.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? What are your hopes and dreams for your future?

Also, linking up for #WildcardWednesday!
