Friday's Letters

Friday, November 30, 2012

** I want to start including my favorite picture from my week with my Friday's letters :)

Dear Friday-If you could go quickly along with the rest of the week until next Thursday, that would be wonderful.

Dear Christmas decorations-Please arrive all at my home. I am in serious need to have you all together at once to plan the proper layout of some things. I am way behind on my Christmas decorating.

Dear December- Can't believe you are almost here. You bring Christmas, a birthday and officially down to 6 months.

Dear engagement pictures- I want to see you!! Waiting is just torture...it's starting to make us feel self conscious  Did we need that much retouching?

Dear blog- You are in need of some TLC and perhaps a new blog design. Once I get those engagement pictures back I am hoping to spruce you up a bit.

Dear new blog friends- Thanks for following along! So glad to have you and hope you enjoy it here :)

Saw it. Pinned it. Did it! Ring Holder Frame

Thursday, November 29, 2012

It's time for another pin, another project to take on. I have been wanting to do this for a little while and since today was my day off with no errands to do..it was the perfect time!

This is the pin that started it all...

I knew I wanted to have one of these to hold my engagement ring when doing dishes, cleaning, etc. Right now I tend to put it on the TV stand out of harms way but still not ideal.

What you need
-A Frame of any sort
-Cork Board
-Fabric or Glitter
-Small metal post
-Glue

I was trying to figure out if I had any frames I could use...what fabric I would use..etc.,etc.

Well, then I saw this little picture frame.

Such a cute little picture frame I got as a favor from a friend's bridal shower in May. But it's been sitting empty for 7 months now without me getting a small picture for it. And why let a gorgeous frame go to waste? Hence my great idea.

The supplies I used were as follows....

So my game plan was....slide the cork in through the picture frame then add fabric. Upon further investigation I realized the frame con caved in the middle so I would need to bulk up the cork in that spot to make it sit right.

As you can see that took a little damage. It was a thicker cork than what should have fit..so some snapped on the way down. Thank goodness I had the old clarinet sitting around with the cork grease to ease it in.

Then came the precise heart to sit on top.

Not too shabby. Now next, I opted out of using fabric and wanted to jazz it up a little bit. I decided on using gold glitter as the background. Slapped on some tacky glue, dribbled some glitter and bam. Glitterfied!

For the rod to sit the ring on, I utilized an earring post that was barely keeping the silver ball on. Ripped that baby off and slid into the cork and wala! A ring frame!

So how did I do??

Take the challenge and see what you can do through Pinterest :)

Engagement Picture Aftermath

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

Sadly, no professional pictures back yet. It's like waiting for your first born..ok, might be over exaggerating but it's agonizing! We just want to see the beauties.

But for now, I can give you sort of a sneak peak...our own pictures we took when we got back. We were all dolled up so we (I) thought it would be fun. Corny? Absolutely. But I love them.

yup had to put on the hats.

Didn't throw the leaves during the pictures so went for it after

Rocked the fake lashes!

Hopefully next week's post can feature the real thing!

A Blogger's Past.

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

Today, I get to share a personal story or talk about who I am thanks to Becky at From Mrs. to Mama. It's called the Women Connect. In the hopes that we all can connect with people going through the same as us.

She suggested describing who we are, why we write or just a personal story.

Trying to introduce yourself is hard.

Hello, I'm Krista...getting married to the love of my life June 7, kitty mama, motherless daughter, still trying to find my dream job.

Um. Not digging it.

Let's try the story behind why I blog.

I started blogging in 2010 after I had stumbled on a blog randomly searching something in Google. I went through it and read how this person was sharing their whole life on this little space on the Internet. Feelings, experiences, everything. It seemed she was giving everyone a peek into her life. And I thought about how I wanted to do that.

I love writing. Always have. This seemed like a great opportunity. But I started out on a random blog interface because I wasn't fully convinced I wanted my blog out there, wanted people reading what I was writing. It was more of a diary for me, a way to pour out my thoughts and feelings at a difficult time. Boy, wish I knew what kind of community would have helped me here..

Dealing with the loss of my mother the year before, graduating college and not finding the job I had hoped and just going along everyday not sure what tomorrow would bring. The blog was my place to go when I had strong feelings, when I wanted to document happenings in my life. It became therapy for me.

In March 2012, I finally made the decision to move my blog to Blogger and become a part of the blogging community. I was ready to share what I wrote with everyone. I don't know what took me so long. I love getting comments on what I'm writing and being able to share my life and experience with my friends and family far away.

I write about the grief that comes with being 'a motherless daughter.' It's a never ending healing process.

I write about all the wedding plans we have been embarking on in the past few months and will continue until wedding day and after!

I write about the life I live my little family in a new place.

And I write about all the quirky things that come into my brain. And you might also notice, I can be very opinionated ;)

But this little space has become my brag brook, my life documenter and some days, my therapy. Hope you enjoy and if you dare, feel free to read my very first entry!

Ugh, turkey. Ugh, giving thanks. Ugh!

Thursday, November 22, 2012

Gotta love the Friends Thanksgiving marathon playing right now as we are getting ready to head off to our Thanksgiving dinner destination! Spending it with the future fam.

Giving thanks with turkey, potatoes and hopefully a better dessert then the one I attempted. I definitely need to brush up on my baking skills. We have a very sad looking apple pie.

Thankful for every person in my life. My fiance who works so hard and makes life fun and I can't wait for next year at this time when we are Mr. and Mrs. My family that supports me and I know will be there for me. My friends who are the best support system I could ever ask for and built in little close family. Lily, who just asks for some love with her purring everyday.

Hope everyone stuffs their bellies and takes a good nap after it all. And most importantly, be thankful for anything that can be taken for granted.

Show and Tell: Thanksgiving

Monday, November 19, 2012

Time for  a Thanksgiving themed Show and Tell with From Mrs. to Mama!

1. Tell us about your family traditions for Thanksgiving
Well, there aren't really any as of the past few years. When my mom was here though...it went a little something like, get up, watch the Thanksgiving parade then head to my cousins for a Thanksgiving dinner.

I hope to make some new traditions in the next few years.

2. Tell us about your favorite foods
Hands down...potatoes and gravy. I am a country, potato lovin' girl. So naturally Thanksgiving gives me the excuse to eat them in crazy amounts. Love.

3. Show us a picture that reminds you of this holiday

One of the last Thanksgivings with my mom...Describes my mom and our crazy little family and I love it!

4. Tell us, do you wait to decorate for Christmas before or after Thanksgiving?
If anyone knows me, knows I am a before Thanksgiving kinda gal. Love me some Christmas. So I usually start putting decorations here and there the week before Christmas. Unfortunately, all my stuff is in storage or in the fiance's parent's garage so might be waiting  a bit after Christmas this year. Orrr I could just get a jump start on my Pinterest Christmas projects ;)

5. Tell us what you are thankful for this year
I have may wonderful things to be thankful for. My super, awesome fiance...my close family and of course my friends that listen to and witness all the craziness that happens in my life. And Lily but that's a given :)

Hope everyone enjoys their shortened week and turkey lurkey!

Lily has a Birthday!

Thursday, November 15, 2012

Warning: Crazy cat lady post coming up...

I need to wish a certain kitty a very happy 3rd birthday! She's a brat, drives me crazy somedays and has cattitude...but we love her. She is our baby.

Just another lazy Sunday...

Happy 3rd Birthday!!

SMILE.

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

Tomorrow is going to be quite the day.

Tomorrow I get to smile my brains out and pretend to not be so uncomfortable while a million pictures of me are taken.

the original engagement pictures in Disney World

Tomorrow I have to be forced to kiss my fiance many, many times. Goshhhh ;)

Tomorrow I get to fret over the state of my skin and just how skilled our photographer is at Photoshop. He can also feel free to erase a few pounds.

Tomorrow a man will tell me where to put my hands and how to pretend to look natural when in fact, I am squirming inside.

Tomorrow I will wear a fallish attire to sit outside in 45 degree weather for an hour. Willingly.

All for the beauty of...engagement pictures! Yea, we are about a year late but it's cool. We're cool. Unfortunately, we have had to reschedule a couple of times due to schedule conflicts and then Sandy so they will not make the save the dates. But don't worry, I have plenty of other ideas for them!

And I must end with this, wishing my future mother in law a very happy birthday! Hope you had a wonderful day :)

There is also a very special birthday tomorrow too....stay tuned to see!

Weekend Update!

Why do crappy Mondays always follow amazing weekends?!

I feel like it is the cycle. Ok, had an awesome weekend and feeling refreshed and ready to go then bam...awful day. Curse you Mondays!

But I seriously did have an amazing weekend. I made a trip up to Connecticut to see my big sister (bridesmaid!) and see Carrie Underwood!! It was my longest trip by myself in the car. Yes, only 3 hours but still...a small step for everyone else...a big step for Krista.

Carrie was amazing as usual. I was ...'Blown Away'..see what I did there? Even better than the last tour and her dresses and shoes were to die for. There might have even been serious consideration of stealing a few pairs for our own collection. Her boyfriend had the perfect headline, "Sorority sisters arrested trying to steal shoes off of Carrie's feet." We even got to indulge in a lot of people watching.

We did notice a new trend. So many girls were dressed like the were going to the club. I'm talking booty dresses and stiletto heels. We were just baffled by their choice of attire and had fun watching many people trying to make their way down a long flight of stairs in their attire.

Ok sidetracked. Great weekend. Can't wait to put together a little video for you all to see! I took some video and pictures and want to get creative and see what I can do :)

Friday's Letters!

Friday, November 9, 2012

Well hello everyone! It's been a bit since I have done a Friday's Letters so here we go!

Photobucket

Dear Snow-Slow it down. Please refrain from making another appearance until at least December. It makes life easier.

Dear engagement pictures-Maybe you will happen sometime soon? Hopefully? But I think you will now might be categorized as winter instead of fall. Seeing as the temperatures have dropped where if we don't wear a coat we might turn blue andddd all the leaves are almost gone. But this is also a cute option. I can get into this.

Dear Fiance-The best will come. I know it! And it will happen right when it's supposed to. For both of us. Love you!

Dear Carrie Underwood and Big!- See ya tomorrow!!! I CAN. NOT. WAIT.!

Dear the Next Month- You will a very big challenge. Between trying to knock multiple things off the wedding to do list and the very busy work schedule, allowing very little time for fun things, you just might push me to my limit. But it also means it's almost Christmas! And so I will just listen to my Christmas music and Christmas movies to cope.

Dear Ornament Swap-

TutusandTeaParties

So excited to be participating in my first blog swap and what's more right up my alley than an ornament swap?! Getting my craft on to prepare my ornament for my partner! Hope she loves it!

And that is all folks! Off to pack for my weekend in CT!!

Rocked it!

Happy Election Day!

Hope you all have gone out, will go out to vote. Exercise your right to vote. It's our right and our freedom and our chance to help move the country in the right direction.

Be an educated voter and vote!

What do you stand for?

Sunday, November 4, 2012

Some nights, I stay up cashing in my bad luck
Some nights, I call it a draw

For some reason I really love this song. People either hate it or love it. I am the latter. It's the lyrics that I kind of just say, yea, to.

We all ask the question to ourselves sometimes. What do we stand for?

As we enter the presidential election, I think this is a huge topic. It matters what most you stand for and what matters to you. (PS. I'm not trying to get into a political debate here, it's a fact.)

You might stand more for Pro choice or Pro Life. That makes your decision. Or perhaps you are Pro Big Bird. All of the biggest issues and concerns for you are what you turn to when you are ready to choose your next president. When you are ready to mark your vote.

But this is something you have to think about when you were watching these presidential debates, watching the anti "this person" commercials and reading all the articles abut what the other ones objectives are. What do you stand for? What direction do you want this country to go in? What are the issues you take a stand against and will not accept a president that supports these?

Or let's just think about everyday life. What do you stand for?

I stand for social media therefore, freedom of speech, the New York Yankees, etiquette and manners, proper grammar, good friends, good life, wine, for the fact that hard work should be rewarded and not the other option, beef (all kinds), against cancer and utilizing all opportunities to have a dance party.

I think it's important for a person to establish what matters most to them. The things that they will stand for and stand up for in their lives. It helps make them the person they are everyday and gives them a purpose. It drives you to where you go and what you are meant to be doing. It can also drive this country in the right direction. At least, let's hope.

And you won't get out of me which way I'm going. I do not enter into debates or conflict. Makes me crazy.

But what is important is knowing what you stand for and making a choice on Tuesday, election day. Exercise your right to vote and have your say in what direction this country is going. Say you will vote. You will have a voice.

Sunday Social!

Time for another Sunday Social! This week's theme is catch us up with your life. Always good.

What is currently on your wishlist?
An iPhone, new tv, kinect, new job. And that's that

What is a new fall show you have added to your DVR?

Definitely Nashville! Love the music and Hayden Panettiere is so great. Such a great show!

I would have to say Twitter is my favorite? Need to be more on it though. And Pinterest is a close second!

What is a TV show or movie or song that you could watch or listen to over and over again and never get tired of

This show never gets old for me. I still crack up at the jokes and have regular season watchings.

Love these movies! And actually my whole DVD collection I could watch over and over and never get tired of. There isn't one movie I won that I haven't watched AT LEAST 3 times.

Have a great week!
